Currently Rittal has developed a solution for Lefdal Mine data center which is located in Norwegian coast. This is knows to be the world's biggest data center the 120,000 square meter big data center operates exclusively on renewable energy. In addition to this, it is cooled by water from the nearby fjord.
The modules used in the Lefdal project are based on the concept of standardised Rittal “RiMatrix S” data centre modules. This solution was developed specifically for the Lefdal project by Rittal to better meet the high requirements for on scalability, standardisation and modular use. The system was then developed together with IBM and Lefdal to provide maximum reliability, simple scalability and the highest possible energy efficiency.
The energy costs are correspondingly low and the system achieves a PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) below 1.15
